Stabbed by husband on her birthday, Delhi wife runs on street for help but dies

Police in Delhi say that they’ve arrested a hotel chef on the charge of stabbing his wife to death on her birthday after a quarrel over a trivial issue.

Police said that the 34-year-old accused Rajesh Singh Chauhan was arrested on Wednesday morning from a south Delhi locality, hours after he killed his 30-year-old wife Renu at least half a dozen times and fled.

“Rajesh and Renu had a heated argument over a trivial issue at their Khanpur J.J Colony home around 11.45 p.m. on Tuesday. Rajesh beat up Renu in front of their minor son and stabbed her with a kitchen knife multiple times,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya was quoted by IANS.

After being stabbed by her drunk husband, police said that Renu ran around her house in pain desperately crying for help. Her loud cries drew the attention of some youth in the neighbourhood who raised the alarm. Seeing neighbours arrive, Rajesh escaped from the spot. Police took the woman to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead on arrival.

Police said the couple often had heated arguments over minor issues. The accused works as a chef at a hotel in Mahipalpur area. The body was sent for autopsy before the cops will hand it over to the family.

Rajesh and Renu had got married after their respective families were connected through a common friend in 2014.

Not so long the mysterious death of an air hostess in Delhi had sent shockwaves across the country. Anissia Batra’s husband, Mayank Singhvi, is currently in police custody on charges of torturing her to death.
