In a shocking incident, police in the national capital have detained a boy for allegedly raping his eight-year-old sister in northwest Delhi’s Adarsh Nagarsh Nagar. The accused committed the crime as their parents were away.
The information provided by the hospital, where the girl was taken for treatment, said that the victim was bleeding profusely at the time of being admitted. Quoting a senior police officer, news agency PTI reported that it was the hospital, which informed the cops about the rape.
According to media reports, the girl told a counsellor that her brother sexually assaulted her by forcing himself on her while their parents were away. The parents found the girl bleeding when they returned home in the evening. They immediately took their daughter to the hospital.
Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal visited the victim on Wednesday.
A statement from the DCW said, “It is really hurting to meet a rape survivor. The 8 year old child has suffered severe pain, that too from her own real brother. Crimes against women and girls are on a rise in the country and concerted steps have to be taken by Governments against the same. The Commission shall be assisting the survivor in all ways possible to recover from the trauma.”
The statement from Maliwal added, “She sustained severe injuries and had to undergo a major operation. Currently, she is in a serious condition. The girl’s parents are daily wage labourers and are very poor.”
The commission said it would support the girl’s treatment and file a case to seek compensation for her. “Crimes against women and girls are on a rise in the country and concerted steps have to be taken by governments against them,” Maliwal said.
“The commission shall be assisting the survivor in all ways possible to recover from the trauma,” Maliwal said.
