On the day BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP, Subramanian Swamy, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to sack ‘mentally not fully India’ RBI Governor, Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, said that the decision to renew Raghuram Rajan’s term will be taken without being influenced by ‘any other factor.’
Evading the question on Swamy’s demand for immediate sacking of RBI Governor Jaitley said that RBI was a responsible institution and decisions will be taken without being influenced by “’any other factor.’
He was quoted by PTI, “I think what is important are issues, not personalities. Secondly whether what happens to the RBI Governor second term or no second term, what his own views on the issue are, are these matters to be discussed in public.”
The government, he said, is a very responsible institution and so is RBI.
“We will take our decisions without being influenced by any other factor, I can tell you, the RBI and the finance ministry, I have always used this word very consciously, very mature level of consultation and its not fair that anyone of us to comment on those issues that we discussed in public space,” he told ET Now news channel.
Swamy on Tuesday had written to Prime Minister Modi asking him to remove Raghuram Rajan as the Reserve Bank of India Governor.
He had said that Rajan was in India on a Green Card and “therefore mentally not fully Indian.”
