Rahul Gandhi attacks Narendra Modi with ‘part-time PM’ jibe

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi why he had not held a single press conference despite being in the office for ‘1,654 days.’ On the last day of the campaigning for assembly elections in Rajasthan and Telangana, Gandhi posted a series of photos of his own media interaction to embarrass the PM.

Gandhi wrote, “Dear Mr Modi, Now that campaigning is over, hope you can spare some time for your part-time job as PM. Btw its been 1,654 days since u became PM. Still no press conference? Some pics from our Hyderabad PC today. Try one someday, it’s fun having questions thrown at you!”

PM Modi has often come under media’s attack for not entertaining two-way interaction with the media since becoming the prime minister in 2014. His selected few interviews have been allotted to channels or media houses, known for being sympathetic to his government or the ideologies of his party, the BJP.

The country goes to polls next year, when Modi will complete a full term as prime minister. If he chooses not to address a press conference between now and the general elections, he may become the first prime minister in the independent India to not entertain questions from the members of the media.

In June this year, Gandhi had embarrassed Modi for his ‘scripted interview’ as first highlighted by Janta Ka Reporter during the latter’s visit to Singapore.
