Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal on Tuesday said that the women’s body had no role to play in Somnath Bharti case as the matter was in court.

She tweeted, ” Ms Barkha Singh closed Somnath Bharti’s case in DCW. Now case is in Court. DCW has no role. Judiciary to ensure strong action against guilty.”

Her reaction comes after Congress leader Ajay Maken questioned the ‘silence’ by DCW on Somnath Bharti matter.

The  Delhi High Court on Tuesday declines the anticipatory bail plea of former Delhi law minister Somnath Bharti, accused of domestic violence by his wife Lipika Mitra.

Justice Suresh Kait said while dismissing Bharti’s plea, “The plea has been dismissed.”

The High Court had on September 15 granted Bharti, an Aam Aadmi Party legislator from Malviya Nagar, protection against arrest till September 17 and sought a police report on the status of investigation in the case.

Bharti had sought cancellation of warrant issued against him by a trial court.

Bharti was named in a first information report (FIR) filed under different provisions of the Indian Penal Code, including charges of domestic violence and attempt to murder, at Dwarka North police station in west Delhi.

Police said they filed the FIR following the June 10 complaint by Bharti’s wife, who said the AAP leader had been abusing her ever since their marriage in 2010. She also claimed that Bharti beat and tortured her and once even tried to kill her.
