Dalit man shot at in Uttar Pradesh for fetching water from government tubewell


In a shocking development, a Dalit man was shot at and injured for fetching water from a public tubewell in Uttar Pradesh.

According to police, attack on the 25-year-old Pankaj Dhaikar in Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh triggered clashes between two groups.

Quoting Chauri police station SHO Vinod Yadav, PTI reported that the incident occurred in Amva village in Chauri area when the Dalit man wanted to take water from a government tubewell and a man from the upper caste, Kailash Pathak prevented him prompting a clash.

Yadav said that the two groups indulged in brick batting when Pathak shot at Dhaikar before fleeing from the spot.

Dhaikar sustained bullet injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.

An FIR has been lodged in this regard and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the accused.
