In a spectacular twist, the BJP’s student wing Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad has said that the lynching of a Muslim man in Dadri was because of Mohammad Akhlaq’s son having affair with a Hindu girl and not because of beef consumotion.
The student wing is likely to come up with this claim in its three-day long state-level convention starting from 1 November.
ABVP leader said that one of Mohammad Akhlaq’s two sons had a ‘love affair with a Hindu girl’, and that led to the lynching but politicians wrongly projected it as a fallout of ‘beef consumption.’
The ABVP convention whose chief guest will be the Uttar Pradesh’s governor Ram Naik is likeleye to discuss Dadri during a discussion ‘appeasement politics’ on the first day.
Suggestions on the matter from participating youths would be sought the next day.
“It has appeared in a section of the media in western UP that one of Akhlaq’s sons had an affair with a local Hindu girl and his family was attacked on the same dispute,” ABVP Awadh region organisation secretary Satya Bhan was quoted by The Indian Express.
“But leaders of different political parties diverted the issue towards another reason, of beef consumption, for appeasement of minorities for political gains. UP minister Azam Khan’s move to write to the UN… also maligned the image of India. It will be clarified at the convention.”
The ABVP, however, is not clear which son of Akhlaq in particular had an “affair” with the Hindu girl in question.
Akhlaq was murdered by a mob of over 100 Hindus on 28 September over rumours that he ate and stored beef inside his house. The armed men had also attacredit Akhlaq’s son Danish, who was critically injured. His other son, Sartaj, is serving in Indian Air Force.
Most accused arrested so far belong to the family of local BJP leader Sanjay Rana.
Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma had called it an accident, while other leaders from the BJP and its affiliate groups including Sakshi Maharaj and Adityanath had justified the murder saying ‘cow eaters should be meted out such treatment.’
Adityanath had even offered to arm Hindu men by providing guns to them in Dadri.
