CWG 2018: India’s daughters continue to impress, Punam Yadav and Manu Bhaker bag gold while Heena Sidhu grabs silver


India’s daughters have continued to perform spectacularly at the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Australia’s Gold Coast. Weightlifter Punam Yadav gave India a golden start on the fourth day of the Games. Soon, a gold and a silver medal followed in the 10 meter air pistol competition.Punam Yadav gave India a gold in the women’s 69 kg category in weight lifting. At the same time, 16-year-old Manu Bhaker bagged India the sixth gold in 10 meter air pistol. In the same competition, Heena Sidhu won the silver medal. In addition, Ravi Kumar won the bronze medal in the 10 meter air rifle event.

Weightlifter Punam Yadav gave India the golden start by lifting a total of 222 kg. Her best lift in the snatch was 100 kg, while in the clean and jerk, she lifted 122 kg. With Punam’s gold, India has got 5 gold medals in weightlifting.

India’s 16-year-old shooter Manu Bhaker won gold in women’s 10 meter air pistol event. Manu has put the sixth gold medal in India’s bag. In the same event, Heena Sidhu took the silver medal showing a remarkable recovery. Manu secured a total of 240.9 points in the finals of the competition, while Heena won the silver medal with 234 points.

In other events, India’s female racewalker, Khushbir Kaur couldn’t win a medal in the women’s 20 km racewalking event but has secured fourth place. Khushbir finished the competition in 1 hour, 39 minutes and 21 seconds.
