Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babulal Gaur who few weeks back was sharing his dhoti and Russian kiss tales and yesterday had termed the Vyapam Scam deaths a natural phenomenon has now raked up yet another fresh controversy. Interacting with the media, the BJP leader said  that drinking liquor was a “fundamental right” and a status symbol too.

Asked by reporters about his views on the extension of time limit for liquor sale in Bhopal from 10pm to 11:30pm, Gaur said,

“Alcohol does not increase crime. People lose their consciousness after consuming alcohol and that’s how it causes crime,” he said. “The person who drinks within control, does not cause crime… one should not overdrink.”

Gaur further added, “It (drinking) is one’s fundamental right. Drinking is a social status symbol these days”.

Gaur had earlier raked up a controversy after saying that “sometimes rape was fine” and number of rapes in southern India were very few as women there were properly dressed unlike other parts of India.
