Continuous rains led to water-logging in the shelter. A number of cows also got stuck in the swampy land after which they were shifted to a temporary shelter, the officials said.

Many cows have fallen sick while three cows died on Wednesday, two calves passed away yesterday, they said.

According to the shelter employees, the three cows died fighting among themselves.

Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry, Ranbir Malik said, “The shelter has about 2050 animals. The calves which have died were not in best of their health.”

Arrangements are being made to shift the calves to a separate enclosure and to provide treatment and better facilities to the bovines, he said, adding four Veterinary Livestock Development Assistants have deployed at the shelter.
