The Congress party on Sunday night released its first list of 77 candidates for the next month’s Gujarat assembly elections.
Notable among those whose names have been announced are Indranil Rajyaguru, Shaktisinh Gohil and Arjun Modhvadiya.
Rajyaguru, a sitting MLA from Rajkot east has now been fielded against BJP’s chief minister’s face Vijay Rupani. This, according to many analysts, will be viewed as the Congress party’s aggression in taking the BJP head on in the coming polls.
Shaktisinh Gohil, who currently an MLA from Abdasa too has changed his constituency, this time shifting to Mandvi seat of the Kutch district. Gohil had played a key role in Ahmed Patel’s victory in the Rajya Sabha elections. Modhvadiya, another stalwart leader of Gujarat Congress, will contest from Porbandar.
The Congress has also taken care of the popular Patidar leader Hardik Patel, whose aide Lalit Vsoya has been ticket from Dhoraji. Meanwhile, Patidar leader Dinesh Patel told ANI that he was not happy with the Tickets’ distribution adding that his supporters, who have been given tickets, will not file nominations.
Gujarat goes to polls in two stages on 9 and 14 December.
