Class 1 student dies in Punjab after being thrashed by teacher for stammering


In a shocking development a Class 1 student, identified as Bindu Ram alias Guddu, died on Sunday after being mercilessly thrashed by a school teacher for stammering.

The incident took place in Phullanwal village of Punjab during during a lesson at his school.

Bindu’s family has alleged that a lady teacher on Saturday dragged him by hair and harshly pulled his ears, news agency PTI quoted Dugri Police Station SHO. Guddu, a student at Government Primary School in Ludhiana, fell ill after the incident.

He was admitted to a private hospital where he succumbed to the injuries yesterday, Singh said.

Bindu’s uncle, Ajay Kumar, said that the lady class teacher would regularly thrash the child as he had a speech impairment.

The boy’s grandfather, Sri Ram, told Hindustan Times that she had once again beaten the boy on Saturday.

“Bindu was crying profusely when he came home from school. When we asked him why he was crying, he said he will never go back to school again as the teacher used to thrash him,” he said.

District Education officer (Elementary) Jaspreet Kaur said an inquiry has been marked and necessary action would be taken after receiving the inquiry report.
