In a surprising revelation, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti on Saturday admitted that children and women at Anganwadi centres across India were being served food meant for animals in the name of nutritious diet.
At a function in Indore, Jyoti said that the children should instead be given food containing soybean, which is rich in protein.
The minister also expressed her concerns over farmers not getting the right price for their produce because of the lack of a regularised food processing industry. She said the government was taking steps in order to change the situation.
A leading food processing company by the name of Ruchi Group was recently given the nod to start a food park in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh and two other such units would be allowed to operate in the state, she said.
