Chhattisgarh police on Saturday claimed they have arrested four Naxals who were carrying a reward on their heads.
Dantewada Superintendent of Police Kamlochan Kashyap said they were arrested from the Maoist centre of Dantewada district in the state.
Kashyap said the arrested Naxals are Malangir Local Operation Squad (LOS) Commander Anita alias Mitki (22), Nelnar LOS member Rajo Vekko (25) and two janmilitia members- Sannu (30) and Raju Mandavi (25). These include two women.
Among the women, Anita was carrying a reward of Rs 3 lakh while Rajo Rs 1 lakh, said Kashyap.
“All of them were involved in other criminal incidents, including attacks on police party, damaging railway tracks and roads, torching vehicles engaged in mining and construction works, in the region,” Kashyap told PTI, adding that their interrogation was going on.
Kashyap said the cadres, who were said to have been involved in an attack on a police anti-landmine vehicle in Dantewada last year, were arrested from Kirandul police station area. They are supposed have blown up an anti-landmine vehicle on Cholnar-Kirandul road in Dantewada in April 13 last year. Five policemen were killed the attack and eight others were injured.
This comes on a day the National Investigation Agency (NIA), in cooperation with state police forces across India, said that it had arrested nine more suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) terror outfit, taking the total number of people arrested to 14.
The NIA raids, which have continued since Thursday evening, were conducted at 12 locations in six cities and in the latest development, the agency arrested nine more suspected IS members, taking the total number of those arrested to 14.
It is pertinent to note that all these arrests have been made when there is increasing threat from militants and also as the Republic Day is just three days away.
