An IPS officer in Chennai is facing condemnation for posting the photos on Facebook of three miscreants, who were allegedly beaten up by cops in custody after they attacked a constable on duty.
IPS Officer Aravindhan, posted in T Nagar, has now deleted his Facebook post amidst widespread condemnation. In his Facebook post, Aravindhan had published the photos of three miscreants, who had their hands and leg fractured, allegedly under police custody. But the IPS officer’s Facebook post said that they had sustained injuries after ‘slipping’ in bathroom.
This was after a Chennai policeman was attacked in the wee of hours of Wednesday at Poondhamallee. Head constable Anbazagn was on beat duty, when he confronted the three men (photographed above). The cop was busy clicking their photos using his mobile phone for verification when the third man took out a knife and attacked him.
Anbazagan ran for safety but the assailants chased him and attacked. The cop has sustained a deep cut in his arm. He was later taken to the hospital, where the doctors said that he was out of danger.
The three assailants, one of whom is believed to be a history-sheeter, were arrested with the help of CCTV footage.
While no one disputes the fact that the miscreants, who attacked the police, ought to face strict punishment, the role of Chennai Police has come under scrutiny for its Khap Panchayat-like justice system
Earlier this month, a pregnant lady was killed in the Tamil Nadu capital after the bike she was travelling on was allegedly kicked by a Chennai cop.
