There was plenty of excitement for the fans of Chelsea and Machester clubs in English Football as all three clubs registered impressive victories in Premier League and League Cup Final.
Chelsea, in particular, were impressive when they beat Southampton away from home even after trailing 0-1. With this victory, the Blues have now moved up to 11th in the league table as they came back from a goal down with a late Branislav Ivanovic header against the host.
Elsewhere, Manchester United, beat rival Arsenal 3-2 while entertaining them at the Old Trafford with teenage talent Marcus Rashford scoring twice.
The victory has taken the Reds to fifth position, just below the Champions League spot.
Manchester City beat Liverpool on penalties to win the League Cup trophy in Wembley Stadium.
The match remained tied 1-1 even after extra time forcing both the teams to go to penalty shoot-out. Thanks to the City’s 34-year-old goalkeeper, Willy Caballero, the City was able to beat the Merseyside club 3-1 on penalties.
Caballero spectacularly rewarded the faith of manager Manuel Pellegrini with saves from Lucas, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana in the shoot-out after he was selected ahead of first-choice Joe Hart.
Away from English football, the weekend also saw a Madrid derby in Spanish La Liga.
However, Real Madrid’s hopes to avenge the last season’s derby defeat were dashed as Atletico Madrid won a third consecutive La Liga Bernabeu encounter to practically end Real Madrid’s title hopes.
Atletico are just now five points off the league leaders Barcelona, who have a game in hand, while Real are awfully placed at third with the gap being at 9 points.
