Central government denies its Make in India logo was a copy from Swiss campaign


Indian government on Tuesday issued a strong denial that its Make in India logo was a copy from a very successful similar campaign in Switzerland.

The government was forced to issue a clarification after a news website reported about the similar campaign in progress in Zurich, Switzerland.

Reacting to the newsminute.com report, Amitabh Kant, who is a Secretary for Industrial Policy & Promotion in government of India, tweeted 30 images of the lions with industrial wheels.

His tweeet read, ” All d 30 vibrant & dynamic Make In India Lions.Not 1 of them resembles d dull,boring & monotonous Swiss or Cuban Lion.”

Kant further said that while “Wheel in Ashoka Chakra forms d centrepiece of India’s national flag. Wheel denotes peaceful progress & dynamism. Since time immemorial Lion has been d official emblem of India. Stands 4 courage,tenacity& wisdom-all Indian values. ”

According to the report, the lion with the wheels behind the sponsored campaign of the Cantonal Bank of Zurich in Switzerland was launched on July 4, 2013. While The Make in India logo was launched on September 25, 2014.



  1. First of all Why does Indian spokesman have to disrespect other countries’ by dissing Swiss or Cuban Lion?
    Also Indian Govt must sue Weiden + Kennedy for bringing us into disrepute by this blatant plagiarism. Even if they have licensed from the Swiss artist still it does not suit our country to use any used material for such brand building exercise.
