CBSE topper’s gang-rape: Main accused Nishu Phogat arrested even as victim’s mother returns Khattar government’s Rs 2 lakh cheque

In a big snub to the BJP government, the mother of Haryana’s CBSE topper has returned the cheque of Rs 2 lakh cheque after the Manohar Lal Khattar administration failed to arrest the main accused, who gang-raped her daughter.

Meanwhile, the Haryana Police has arrested one of the main accused, identified as  Nishu Phogat, who had allegedly planned the rape and even called the doctor to the crime scene.

The CBSE topper’s gang-rape by at least 10 people including an army soldier had sent shockwaves across the world. Meanwhile, there are also reports of the state government having transferred a senior police officer. The police officer in question is identified as Rewari SP Rajesh Duggal, reported India Today. Rahul Sharma will take over as the new SP of Rewari.

The government has also announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for anyone, who could provide information on the main accused of the gang-rape.

The victim’s mother said that she wanted justice and not money.

“A cheque of Rs 2 lakh has been given to the father of a girl who was gang-raped. This has been offered to us while no accused has been arrested yet. Few people from the government came to us and gave this cheque to my husband. She (the victim) is already in depression and now they are giving her money. Instead of doing justice, they have given us cheque. We were hopeful that we will get justice. We want justice, not your cheque. I am giving this back,” she was quoted as saying.

The victim’s father on Saturday had shared his agony and humiliation faced at the hands of the senior police officers when he first approached them to file a complaint in the case. He said that a woman ‘SP’ had thrown the copy of the complaint at him while odering him to return home.

Meanwhile, cops have continued their raids on different locations in Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi to trace the accused involved in the kidnapping and gang-rape of the CBSE topper.

The victim, a second-year student, was on her way to the coaching when she was attacked a group of men, who dragged her to a nearby field and took turns in raping her. All the rapists, according the girl, were from her village.
