Visva-Bharati vice-chancellor, Sushanta Dattagupta, was sacked in February this year on grounds of gross misconduct and dereliction of duty.
This was the first-ever sacking of central university head in the India’s history.
Some reports said that Dattagupta’s office in Santiniketan in Bolpur too was raided.
Union HRD Minister, Smriti Irani had reportedly sent the proposal to sack Visva-Bharati University Vice Chancellor, Sushanta Dattagupta, to President Mukherjee second time after the latter, in December, questioned the legality of the Union HRD ministry’s recommendation for his removal.
Irani’s decision to re-send the proposals to sack Dattagupta was after she had favourable legal opinion from the Attorney General, Mukul Rohatgi, who felt the due process was followed in reaching the conclusion to sack the VC.
