‘Blow the Pak boat off’ fame Coast Guard DIG to face court-martial

Indian Coast Guard officer, who had contradicted the central government’s stand on Pakistani boat row is all set to face court-martial.

B K Loshali, the Coast Guard DIG, had shot to prominence when the Indian Express in February carried his video, where he claimed to have ordered the blowing up of Pakistani boat off Gujarat’s Porbandar coast on the night of 31 December, last year.

In the video, Loshali was seen as telling a private gathering, ” I told them to blow the boat off. We don’t want to serve them biryani.”

His comments came as a huge embarrassment for the Indian government, which up until then, had maintained that the crew of the Pakistani boat in question “hid themselves below the deck compartment and set the boat on fire, which resulted in explosion and major fire.”

In May a three-member disciplinary committee concluded that his stand had contradicted the government’s stand and the boat had blown ‘itself off.’

Defence ministry sources say that the charges against Loshali are quite serious and the officer will have to face court-martial as even the inquiry committee had recommended ‘stringent action’ against him.
