Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday attacked the Centre’s Narendra Modi government by alleging that the BJP was interested in keeping the masses uneducated so that they could only sell pakodas, fried Indian snacks.
Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal said, “Aam Aadmi Party (government in Delhi) makes people doctors, engineers and lawyers by providing them the best education. The BJP, on the other hand, has only one dream for India; Keep people uneducated and make them sell pakodas.”
The pakoda jokes have dominated the public discourse ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi told a channel that selling pakodas and earning Rs 200 a day was also a part of his job creation initiatives. Modi was widely condemned for his statement with many alleging that this was only to hide his embarrassment after his government failed to provide 1 crore jobs every year as was promised by him during the 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign.
BJP President Amit Shah too had defended the prime minister’s statement adding that it was better to sell pakodas than stay unemployed.
Many graduates had staged protests by selling pakodas in Bangalore outside the rally venue of Modi. Similar protests were launched by supporters of Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh.
