BJP unleashes brutal attack through union ministers, IT cell chief against Rahul Bajaj, Nirmala Sitharaman invokes national interest

A day after industrialist Rahul Bajaj sought to corner Home Minister Amit Shah with a seemingly uncomfortable question, the BJP unleashed a brutal attack through its union ministers and the party’s IT cell chief.

Rahul Bajaj

Attacking the renowned industrialist, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman almost implied that questioning Shah was tantamount to acting against national interests. She wrote on Twitter, “Home Minister @AmitShah answers on how issues raised by Shri. Rahul Bajaj were addressed. Questions/criticisms are heard and answered/addressed. Always a better way to seek an answer than spreading one’s own impressions which, on gaining traction, can hurt national interest.”

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, too was scathing in his attack for Bajaj as he wrote, “That Mr Rahul Bajaj could stand up to Sh @AmitShah Ji’s face, express himself freely & instigate others to join him clearly indicate that freedom of expression & democratic values are alive & flourishing in India. This is exactly what democracy is all about.”

In another tweet, he wrote, “There are societies in the world which are governed by fear, but a society where citizens can weave fake narratives & hurl invectives at the govt cannot be classified as one governed by fear, it is a society characterized by fair dose of indiscipline.”

Elsewhere, BJP’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya posted a series of tweets trolling Bajaj for questioning Shah. One such tweet by Malviya read, “The atmosphere of fear is so pervasive these days that media talking heads criticise the govt day in and out, write opeds calling obnoxious names and wishing death for those in power and even now are hopping mad with joy that an industrialist asked a question.. Where is the fear?”

In other social media posts, Malviya went on to dig out old documents showing Bajaj’s praise for Rahul Gandhi.

The video of Bajaj accusing the Narendra Modi government of instilling an atmosphere of fear in the country in Shah’s presence had gone viral over the weekend.
