BJP MP Udit Raj to Janta Ka Reporter: Dalits are being victimised since 2 April Bharat Bandh protests

The BJP high command is quite unsettled considering the heat it’s been getting from its own Dalit MPs just before the Karnataka assembly elections and the 2019 general elections. The Narendra Modi government is constantly being accused of carrying out anti-Dalit agenda.

Surprisingly, such allegations are being made by BJP’s own Dalit MPs. Speaking on the latest attack on the government, BJP’s Dalit MP Udit Raj on Saturday (7 April) alleged that after the protests during the ‘Bharat Bandh’ earlier this week, members of his Dalit community in different parts of the country are being ‘tortured ‘.

Speaking to Janta Ka Reporter, Raj expressed his displeasure alleging that since 2 April, the administration has been continuously targeting Dalits. The BJP MP said that the police and local goons were assaulting Dalits. He said that ‘we (Dalits) are not against the government, but the government should instruct the police administration to stop the atrocities on Dalits.’ Udit Raj said that 15 people had been arrested in Jodhpur alone.

The BJP MP also made similar assertions on Twitter. In a series of tweets, he said, “Reports are pouring in that those Dalits who participated in agitation on 2 April are being tortured and it must be stopped.”

His following tweets said, “Dalits r tortured at large scale after 2nd April country wide agitation. People from Badmer, Jalore, Jaipur, Gwalior, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Karoli & other parts calling that not only anti reservationists but police also beating & slapping false cases. (sic)”

Raj, MP from North West Delhi seat, said that a worker of Dalit organization run by him in Gwalior was harassed. Udit Raj said that the worker was tortured even when he did nothing wrong. The places mentioned by Udit Raj are all run by the BJP government.

It is significant that during the ‘Bharat Bandh’ against the alleged dilution of the Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on 2 April, at least 11 people were killed and hundreds more were injured in the violent demonstration. Since the ‘Bharat Bandh’ various cases have emerged of Dalits being tortured and beaten up in false cases.

This is the reason why BJP’s Dalit MPs are writing letters to PM Modi expressing their resentment. Various BJP MPs from Uttar Pradesh, belonging to the Dalit community have written letters to the Prime Minister while opening a front against their own government.

BJP MPs, who have recently written against their own government, include Savitri Bai Phule, Chhote Lal, Ashok Dohre and Dr. Yashwant Singh. MP Chhote Lal, in his letter to the Prime Minister, had also complained against Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath.
