BJP MP Nepal Singh on Tuesday caused a huge embarrassment to his own party by his controversial comments about the deaths of army soldiers. Singh, who represents Rampur in the Lok Sabha, said that Army personnel died daily and that there was no country where it did not happen.
The remarks of Singh gave the Opposition a handle to attack the Centre’s Narendra Modi government in Parliament with the Congress demanding an apology.
To a question about the deaths of Army personnel in terror attacks, Singh told ANI, “They die daily in the Army. Is there a country where army men do not die in fights? Somebody will receive injuries even in a fight in a village.”
MP Nepal Singh asked if there is any device which can zero down the effect of a bullet. “Koi aisi device batao, jisse aadmi na mare? Aisi cheez batao ki goli kaam na kare, use karwa dein” he said.
The BJP has always championed the cause of Indian army by invoking the issue of nationalism.
Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia raised the issue during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha and attacked the government, saying Singh’s comments showed that it was not serious about the lives of the armed forces personnel.
