If you thought the controversy over Shilpi Tewari, the former aide of Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani, posting doctored video of Kanhaiya Kumar to build a case for sedition was an aberration, think again.
An active member of Gujarat BJP’s IT cell has now been accused of posting a tweet asking the ‘anti-national’ JNU professors and students to be killed.
Sanjay Rathod posted this tweet on 8 March, before deleting it, perhaps under pressure from his bosses, who feared huge public backlash.
Rathod, who is the IT cell convener of BJP’s Junagadh unit, posted on his Twitter handle Tuesday, “Shoot Anti National JNU students & Proff and close the chapter. But the problem is that Our Govt doesn’t allow to kill Dogs #WakeUpIndia”.
Interestingly, the hashtag #WakeUpIndia was started by Zee News in a build up to the channel’s owner, Subhash Chandra’s famous appearance on its prime time show DNA.
Zee has been running campaign against those, who it calls ‘Afzal (Guru) premi gang.’
In another of his tweet, Rathod asks people to come and support Zee News, who according to him, can’t fight against ‘sickular/anti-national’ alone.
He wrote, “ZeeNews alone can’t fight against entire Sickular/anti national politico-media-ISI nexus. Need everyone 2 raise their voice #WakeUpIndia.”
At 3.30 am, two minutes before his “shoot” suggestion, Rathod, 35, also posted, “#Wake-UpIndia or it will be too late. There are big forces who want to break India. They are funding #antinationals & paid media.”
His another tweet in Hindi said, “tweet in Hindi, he wrote, “Kal se jo 10 aatankwadi Gujarat mein ghuse hain, unme se kaun kiska beta, beti, bahu hai, yeh abhi se tay kar lein, baad mein Ishrat Jahan ki tarah lafda nahin chahiye. (Decide son, daughter, daughter-in-law among the 10 terrorists who infiltrated Gujarat yesterday. Don’t want an affair like Ishrat Jahan later.)”
This tweet by Rathod continues to be on his social media page.
Defending his posts, Rathod told Indian Express, “As a BJP member, I am supposed to express my opinion and counter views opposed to my party. I am also supposed to support those supporting our line of thinking.”
Rathod has 119,000 followers and is followed by Gujarat’s Minister of State for Science and Technology, Govind Patel.
His home page proudly displays two photos with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
