West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has slammed the BJP for boasting about its new office, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the weekend. The Trinamool supremo also said that the saffron party should be ashamed about its public boasting.
“They (BJP) are boasting about inaugurating the world’s largest party office. They should be ashamed of it. From where are they getting so much money? A political party should be humble in its approach and should not behave arrogantly,” Banerjee, who was addressing a public gathering, was quoted by PTI.
Speaking at the event to inaugurate the news BJP office Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg in Delhi, the party’s national president, Amit Shah, had said that with an area of over 1.70 lakh sq.ft, the new BJP headquarters in Delhi was bigger than the office of any other political party in the world.
Banerjee also accused the BJP government led by PM Modi of helping fraudsters swindle public money and alleged that a conspiracy was hatched in this regard ahead of demonetisation in November, 2016.
Saying that it was India’s ‘misfortune’ that the country was being ruled by the BJP, Banerjee said, “If you keep money in banks, it will be taken away. If you dig deeper, you will find out that not only PNB, but many other banks are also being looted. Who gave them (fraudsters) protection — the government has to answer.”
Her comments came just a day after Congress President Rahul Gandhi too linked the recent PNB scam and the fraud committed by Rotomac Pens worth Rs 3,500 crore to Modi’s demonetisation decision.
