A man carrying an air gun was on Saturday detained at the entrance of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Bihar’s West Champaran district, police said.
A district police official said, “A bearded man with an air gun was detained. His air gun was seized along with his bag.”
Police said the man was spotted carrying an air gun and tried to enter the site of Rahul Gandhi’s rally being held in Ram Nagar, ahead of the Bihar assembly election.
Officials interrogated him but refused to share details with the media.
The rally will be the first big show of the ‘grand alliance’ after the ‘Swabhiman rally’ in Patna on 30 August, which was attended by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, RJD chief Lalu Prasad and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad will not be present as they are finalising the candidates for the election.
However, JD-U general secretary and national spokesperson K.C. Tyagi and other senior party leaders will attend the rally.
