After a controversy over Aam Aadmi Party MP Bhagwant Mann allegedly turning up drunk at a ‘bhog’ ceremony of two men killed in police firing in Punjab, AAP has issued a statement along with a video in which Mann narrates his side of the story.

The following is the AAP statement:

“A bunch of illogical rumours are being spread about AAP MP from Sangrur, Punjab, Bhagwant Mann. Mann narrates the actual incident in the video below:

Around 12:30 pm Bhagwant Mann, Sucha Singh Chotepur, Prof. Sadhu Singh went to Burgadi where the Shaheedi Samagam was to be held.

The organiser received them and took them towards the stage where Bhagwant Mann and Sadhu Singh sat near the stage and Chhotepur ji went to the stage. People were giving tribute to the martyrs. They also called Bhagwant Mann to the stage but later, Sant Daduwal announced that the stage was overcrowded and wouldn’t be able to bear the weight, so a major portion of people who were not going to address the audience must move down the stage as Shri Guru Granth Sahib was being placed on the stage and no mishappening should lead to the disrespect of Shri Guru Granth Sahib.

Behind the stage, Bhagwant Mann met some young boys. A boy requested him to meet the victim in Apollo hospital Delhi. He assured him that he will visit him and left. All of a sudden, a group of boys followed him and started poking that ‘he is drunk’ . He chose to ignore them and left the place because it was not the right place to answer them.

Clearly, its a political conspiracy to divert people’s attention from the real issues and a pure intentional attempt to create chaos out of nothing. We appeal you to not be influenced by such rumours.”
