An overwhelming majority of respondents of a Twitter poll has said that the central government was using the National Investigation Agency as a political tool.
The poll was launched by jantakareporter.com hours after it emerged that the NIA had dropped serious charges against terror accused Sadhvi Paragya Thakur in Malegaon blast case.
Nearly 1500 respondents took part in the poll lasting for 24 hours with more than 80 percent answering in affirmative. 17 percent felt that the BJP-led government at the Centre was not misusing the NIA, while 2 percent respondents appeared indecisive on the question.
The NIA has come under severe criticism for its decision to give clean chit to Sadhvi Pragya and three other terror accused while watering down the serious charges against other accused, all belonging to right-wing Hindutva organisations.
The Malegaon blast in 2008 had killed four people while injuring 79 others.
The agency has also been condemned for casting aspersion on the former Maharashtra ATS chief, Hemant Karkare, who was martyred in November 2011 while fighting the terrorists from Pakistan.
On Saturday, Aam Aadmi Party, presented damning evidence against the NIA chief Sharad Kumar alleging how he had deliberately worked towards weakening cases against terror accused belonging to Hindutva organisations and the RSS.
