Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, on Thursday tore into Prime Minister Narendra Modi by highlighting the perceived hypocrisy over BJP’s new-found love for Dalits on the 125th anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar.
Addressing a huge crowd at Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium, Kejriwal launched stinging attack on the prime minister by reminding how every action of Modi was in contradiction with the teachings of BR Ambedkar- the architect of the Indian constitution.
He said, “On the day of Baba Sahab Bhimrao Ambedkar’s anniversary, I would like to make 4-5 appeals. And I think this will be his (Modi’s) tribute (to Ambedkar) on behalf of the whole of India if he acts on these advice. First, the Prime Minister should unfollow on twitter all those, who use filthy abuses against girls and other users on twitter and other social media platforms. Second, he should sack both the ministers (Bandaru Dattatreya and Smriti Irani), who are responsible for the death of Rohith Vemula.
“Third, please stop breaking the elected governments. Contest and win elections and run the government with utmost honesty for five years. Breaking the governments and entering through the back door is not a good thing. Let Delhi government work. People of Delhi are very happy with their elected government. And fifth is about those goons who are threatening to beat people who don’t chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai or follow dietary habits different to those goons. If these goons dare to repeat their thuggery, then send them to jails.”
Kejriwal accused Modi of practicing hypocrisy over his love Dalits. He reminded the audience how Dr Ambedkar himself was a victim of discrimination and often complained about it. The Delhi chief minister said that Ambedkar’s decision to accommodate reservation in the constitution had stemmed from his own personal experience.
He said, “He (Ambedkar) knew that this society had tolerated discrimination and injustice for centuries. He knew that reservation was the only way to improve the conditions of Dalits. But today, the RSS chief says the reservation should be reviewed, while the prime minister says he’s in favour of reservation. Who are they fooling? All I want to say is that Modi ji not the nation, the RSS is not the parliament and Manusmriti is not the constitution.”
