Arvind Kejriwal throws his weight behind Nitish, takes a dig at Narendra Modi for his DNA remarks

In what appears to be first open support for Nitish Kumar, the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday took a dig at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his controversial DNA comments aimed at the Bihar chief minister last month.

Speaking to reporters in Delhi after watching Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer, Manjhi, The Mountain Man, Kejriwal said, ” Ab Bihar chunaav aa rhe hain to sab logon ko (yeh film) dekhni chahiye ki Bihar ka DNA kis kism ka bana hua hai. (Now Bihar elections are nearing and everyone should watch this movie to see the real DNA of a Bihari.)

Earlier after watching the movie, Kejriwal tweeted, ”

Modi in his rally in Muzaffarpur last month had questioned Nitish’s DNA. Since then, the Bihar chief minister has been running a relentless campaign against Modi arguing that he had insulted every Bihari. He’s currently running a ‘shabdwapsi (withdrawal of words)’ campaign urging PM Modi to take back his words.

Kejriwal’s comments on DNA in that context is the first sign yet that his Aam Aadmi Party was going to support Nitish Kumar, who has already met the Delhi chief minister several times.

Kejriwal’s support for Nitish assumes significance as the former is credited with stopping what was billed as Modi’s victory juggernaut in Delhi after AAP won 67 out of 70 seats in this year’s assembly elections. The BJP, despite Modi’s campaign, could only win three seats.
