A sedition case has been filed in a Hyderabad police station against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and several other Congress, CPI and CPIM leaders.

The complaint asked the court to direct the ‘S.H.O Saroor Nagar, U/Sec 156(3) Cr.P.C for investigation and report and punish’ all the accused for the offences U/Sec 124,124-A r/w 34 IPC.

The complainants, who are ‘practicing lawyers, said, “It is submitted that on February 9, 2016 A group of Jawaharlal Nehru University students headed by accused No.1 & 2 (Kanhaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid) held an event on campus namely “Cultural Event” in support of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, during which they allegedly shouted slogans against the 2013 hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

“It is respectfully submitted that the organizers went ahead with the event despite being disallowed from holding it, but instead of a protest, they held a cultural programme and an art and photo exhibition on the Afzal Guru hanging. Shouted slogans are like following:

‘Paksitan Zindababd” “Paksitan Zindababd’
‘India Go back’ ‘India Go back’
‘Bhaarath ki Barbaadi Tak….. ‘Jung Rahegi’ ….. ‘Jung Rahegi'”

The complainants said that since Afzal guru was convicted and ordered to be hanged by Supreme Court,  the JNU students calling his death as judicial was an insult on Indian judiciary.

It said that the decision by leaders from various parties to attend students’ protests on the JNU campus amounted to their support for ‘anti-national activities.

The leaders named in the complaint are CPIM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI’s D Raja, JDU’s KC Tyagi, Congress’ Ajay Maken and Anand Sharma among others.

Reacting to this news, Tyagi said that this was reminiscent of emergency.

He said, “Reminds me of emergency when such charges were imposed to muzzle opposition voices. The day we will turn anti-nationals, there will be no nationalist in the country.”

AAP leader and member of Kejriwal’s cabinet in Delhi government, Kapil Sharma, told ANI that it was indicative of complete failure of Delhi Police and union home ministry taunting cops for its failure to arrest the real culprits who chanted anti-India slogans on JNU campus.

He said, ” Kejriwal is anti-national, so are Yechury and D Raja. There’s just one nationalist left in India and he’s the same man who dines with Nawaz Sharif in Lahore.”
