Apple India has slashed prices of its iPhones, Apple Watch and iMac line of computers on the day the Indian government launched the GST across India.
A report by NDTV said that the company has reduced the prices of all iPhone models, starting with Rs. 1,200 drop for the 32GB iPhone SE and going all the way up to a Rs. 6,600 reduction in MRP for the top-of-the-line iPhone 7 Plus 256GB variant.
The reduction in prices for iPad series vary between Rs. 900 to Rs. 3,900. One report said that the company had also decided to cut the prices of its newly announced iPad Pro models, that are yet to be launched in India.
While MacBook Air prices have not changed, the prices for 12-inch MacBook and MacBook Pro models havebeen slashed between Rs. 5,100 and Rs. 11,800.
A report by Hindustan Times said that the Rs 60,000 Apple iPhone 7 (32GB variant) can now be purchased at Rs 56,200. The Rs 70,000 iPhone 7 (128GB) is now available for Rs 65,200 and the Rs 80,000 256GB variant at Rs 74,400.
The base model (32GB) of Apple iPhone 7 Plus is now available at Rs 67,300 as opposed to Rs 72,000 previously.
A report published in Economic Times said that that The move makes the iPhone much more attractive to consumers in the Indian market who attach a significant value to the brand. The price drop would help Apple immensely in garnering share in a highly competitive Indian smartphone market, from the present levels of 2.6 per cent in the quarter ended March 2017.
