The post of the chief secretary had fallen vacant after MM Kutty was appointed as Additional Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry on Tuesday. Kutty was appointed as the chief secretary last November.

“The competent authority in the Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the appointment of Anshu Prakash, IAS (AGUMUT:1986)) as Chief Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi,” said the order signed by TVSN Prasad, the additional secretary in the MHA.

The deputy chief minister, Manish Sisodia, however, had said that the government was yet to propose any name.

In May 2015, the then Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung had appointed senior bureaucrat Shakuntala Gamlin as the acting chief secretary after K K Sharma went on leave. Gamlin’s appointment was strongly opposed by the AAP government.
