“We had received information from the control room on January 16 that a body was being taken out of Rajasthan. Upon investigation we found several people in Shastri Nagar’s painter colony who was trying to shift Ali’s body,” Virendra Singh, sub inspector, Shastri Nagar police station, Jaipur, was quoted by Indian Express.

The motive of Ali’s murder is not known yet but police suspect yet another communal angle to his killing.

We have recovered a bottle of acid from his room. The body bore acid burn injuries on several parts including fingers. Later, a post-mortem was conducted which revealed severe internal burn injuries as well,” Indian Express quoted Mahaveer Prasad, station house officer, Shastri Nagar police station as saying.

Last month, a Hindutva fanatic had attacked a Muslim migrant from Bengal, Md Afrazul, before burning him alive. The video of this ghastly act had gone viral globally.

On Friday, even the Supreme Court observed that the video of Afrazul’s murder was ‘horrendous.’

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud was inclined to issue notice on the plea filed by Gulbahar Bibi, wife of 50-year-old deceased Mohammed Bhatta Sheikh, seeking an impartial SIT probe into the dastardly murder.

“The video is horrendous,” the bench was quoted by Hindustan Times, adding that it was willing to consider the plea and issue appropriate directions.
