Anil Ambani calls Rahul Gandhi’s claims on Rs 284 crore kickback ‘blatant lies’

Hours after Congress President Rahul Gandhi alleged that Dassault Aviation had paid a kickback of Rs 284 crore to Reliance Defence, Anil Ambani’s company issued a statement calling the allegations ‘blatant lies.’

Rahul Gandhi

The company said in a statement that both Anil Ambani and Reliance were being dragged because of the elections in India. “The Congress Party has today once again resorted to blatant lies and distorted facts to mount an unwarranted campaign of calumny and falsehoods against the Reliance Group and its Chairman Anil Ambani personally,” news agency PTI quoted the statement from Anil Ambani’s Reliance.

Rahul Gandhi on Friday had said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wouldn’t be able to survive if an inquiry was ordered into the questionable Rafale deal. Speaking to reporters Rahul also said Dassault had Rs 284 crore as kickbacks to Anil Ambani’s Reliance Defence.

He had told reporters, “If an inquiry starts on this (Rafale deal), Modi is not going to survive it. guaranteed.”

He said, “Dassault CEO said that the reason why his company preferred Anil Ambani over HAL was because Anil Ambani had land. Now it turns out the land Mr Anil Ambani had was purchased from the money it received from Dassault. Dassault company put in Rs 284 crore into Anil Ambani’s company. Ambani uses the same money to purchase land. It’s clear that Dassault CEO is lying. The question also arises as to why Dassault invested Rs 284 crore into a loss-making company (owned by Ambani), whose value was just Rs 8.30 lakh?”
