Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit his constituency, Varanasi, later today and his supporters have made an elaborate arrangement to ensure the BJP doesn’t face any embarrassment ahead of crucial assembly elections.
Nearly the entire union cabinet has descended in Varanasi to oversee the poll preparations for Modi, who won a historic mandate from Varanasi in 2014. These preparations have added the traffic chaos of an already choked city.
On Saturday, hours before Modi’s arrival, several roads and streets were found to be choked with the movement of BJP workers for Modi’s visit here. Those facing difficulties were ordinary citizens and, more crucially, the vehicles meant to respond to emergency situation.
In Varanasi’s several areas, the traffic almost has almost come to standstill with an ambulance finding it hard to make its way near the main gate of Banaras Hindu University. It’s, however, not clear if the ambulance was carrying the patient or on its way to pick one.
Modi is expected to address the rally and visit the Kashi Vishwanath and Kaal Bhairav temples during his visit to Varanasi.
As well as Modi, Saturday will also see a joint roadshow by Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav with Mayawati too scheduled to arrive here for an election rally.
