Air India crew member arrested in Jeddah

An Air India flight’s cabin crew member Chaitanya Sawant was arrested on the Jeddah Airport by the airport authorities on charges of smuggling out gold, on Thursday morning.

The cabin crew member who is under arrest was to board the flight going to Kochi, along with 11 other crew members, according to media reports.

An Air India spokesperson confirmed the arrest but said that the reason for the same were unknown. “The cabin crew is still in detention. We are ascertaining the reason behind his detention,” the spokesperson was reported saying.

It was reported that the airlines was forced to run the flight with 11 cabin crew members instead of mandatory 12 as a result of the arrest.
