An Indian Air Force officer has been taken into custody after he was caught passing classified information to a woman friend on WhatsApp. According to reports, the Group Rank officer was believed to have met the woman friend on Facebook.
Some reports suggested that the woman in question may have been an enemy spy. Officials are trying to ascertain if the Air Force officer was a victim of a honey-trap.
The “unwanted” activities by the officer were discovered during routine counter intelligence surveillance, the sources said. The IAF officially did not comment on the matter, reported News18.
Under the existing rules, serving armed forces officials are not allowed to disclose their ranks, units or posting on social media platforms. The identities of the air force officer or the woman have been kept secret as probe continues.
