Aam Aadmi Party today fielded its Punjab convener and actor Gurpreet Singh Waraich also known as Ghuggi from Batala constituency, as it announced the seventh list with four candidates for the upcoming state Assembly polls.
A native of Khokhar Faujian village in Batala, Waraich joined AAP in February and was appointed the party’s Punjab convener replacing Sucha Singh Chhotepur who was removed from the post after a video clip surfaced showing him allegedly taking bribe in exchange for poll tickets.
By nominating Waraich from Batala seat, the party has put the speculations to rest about fielding him against state minister Bikram Singh Majithia from Majitha Assembly constituency.
AAP had announced a few days back to field a “prominent face” against Majithia.
45-year old Waraich, popularly known as “Ghuggi”, is a graduate and has acted in several movies.
Waraich began his career as a Punjabi actor in Jalandhar Doordarshan. He has worked in many Bollywood and Punjabi films.
Besides Waraich, AAP also announced to nominate 55-year-old Sukhwant Singh Padda from Kapurthala seat while Atul Nagpal has been given ticket from Abohar seat.
Sukhwinder Singh Mann has been fielded from Sardulgarh, the party said in a release here.
With this list, the total number of candidates announced for the polls has reached to 102.
Punjab has a total of 117 Assembly constituencies.
