Aam Aadmi Party has hit back at the Uttar Pradesh’s senior cabinet minister, Azam Khan, for his remarks on the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal
Khan had ‘advised’ Kejriwal to confine himself to Delhi and ‘not to make the mistake’ of aspiring to contest elections in UP, where assembly polls are due in 2017.
Senior AAP leader and the party’s in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, Sanjay Singh, told jantakareporter.com, “ham darne daraane ki rajneeti nahi karte hai. ham Hindu aur musalmano ke beech ekta ki rajneeti karte hain. (Our politics is not about frightening others. We promote harmony among Hindu and Muslims). Azam Khan is an honest person and he’s been able to maintain clean image with no cases of corruption against him. But he’s been a part of a system that has converted Uttar Pradesh into a jungle Raj. We, however, don’t approve the provocative language he often uses to make his points against his political detractors.”
Khan, while exclusively speaking to jantakareporter.com, had described Kejriwal as a ‘good man’ adding that he had succeeded in exposing Delhi police ‘pretty well’
Sanjay Singh said that AAP didn’t need Khan’s ‘unsolicited advice.’
He said, “Azam Khan can keep his advice to himself. There’s a huge appetite among the people of Uttar Pradesh for a new alternative, which champions their cause with utmost honesty. The state has had enough riots in the name of religion and the government has miserably failed to check the alarming rise in communal violence. Our party is capable of providing that alternative to the people of UP.”
Another AAP leader Adarsh Shastri, tweeted saying that Khan’s comments were indicative of his fear of the rising popularity of AAP.
His tweet read; “Statement of Azam Khan clearly shows how the roots of dirty politics are shaken by Aam Aadmi Party’s honest politics.”
