AAP MLA Alka Lamba says she will sever all ties with party soon

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Alka Lamba on Sunday said that she had made up her mind to resign from the party’s primary membership after consulting her constituents in the Chandni Chowk assembly area.

“I thought I should talk to people and take a decision. It has been decided that I should break all ties with Aam Aadmi Party and resign from its primary membership. I’ll tender my resignation from the primary membership of AAP, soon in writing. I will continue to be an MLA,” news agency ANI quoted her as saying.

Her decision to sever ties with her party came days after she told news agency PTI that she was planning to contest the 2020 assembly elections from Chandni Chowk as an independent candidate. She had accused her party leadership of disrespecting her on several occasions.

Lamba had said, “I am not called to meetings. I am insulted repeatedly. I spent 20 years in the Congress and even there I struggled with family politics but in the AAP I do not get the basic respect,” she claimed.

Lamba had refused to campaign for her party during this year’s Lok Sabha polls. The BJP went on to win all seven seats with the Congress finishing as the first runners up in five seats.
