Police in Uttar Pradesh said on Friday that a burnt body of an AAP leader was found inside his car in the state. The AAP leader has been identified as Naveen Das. A police officer said that his team found an unscathed mobile phone from next to the 25-year-old AAP leader in the burnt car.
The car key, however, was missing when the cops arrived at the crime spot.
A report by IANS said that the vehicle was found abandoned in a secluded spot in Bhopra on the road leading to Loni from Sahibabad. Quoting an officer, the news agency also reported that the police estimated the fire to have occurred around 2.30 am. Das was reported to have received WhatsApp messages until 4.30 am in the morning.
His sister reportedly spoke to him at 12.30 am. The two discussed their plans to rent a flat in Delhi, Superintendent of Police (City) Shlok Kumar was quoted as saying.
The cops were alerted about the crime by Friday morning commuters.
According to the grieving family, they suspect a foul play adding that whoever carried out the crime might have called him to the deserted spot, locked him inside the car before torching the vehicle.
As the car keys missing, Das would have failed to roll down the power windows or escape by unlocking the doors.
A criminal case has been registered against unknown persons in Sahibabad police station, added IANS report.
