Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray on Wednesday met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in Delhi. Thackeray reportedly invited both Gandhi and Singh to attend the swearing-in ceremony on Thursday.
Thackeray’s father Uddhav Thackeray is set to take oath as the new chief minister of Maharashtra on Thursday. The swearing-in ceremony will take place in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park.
This was after Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP resigned after failing to prove the majority. The Supreme Court had directed the BJP to prove the majority by Wednesday, but Fadnavis stunned everyone by resigning from his post, just 80 hours after he took the oath of office in a stunning political coup on Saturday.
This paved the way for the Shiv Sena, the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party to stake their claim to form the government. Uddhav Thackeray will become the first member of the Thackeray clan to hold the post of the CM.
