At least seven children have died in a road accident after the van they were travelling in rammed into a bus in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district. A report by news agency PTI said that the driver of the school van too had died in the accident. The condition of 8 other children is said to be critical.
Madhya Pradesh’s incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted in Hindi, “Utterly shocked by the news of the Satna road accident. I am pained. I pay my tribute to the children. My condolences towards the afflicted families. I have instructed the administration to take necessary action. I pray to God that the departed souls rest in peace.”

Road accidents in India have become increasingly common. Last year alone, as many as 146,377 people died in road accidents across the country.
