5-year-old boy dies after being thrashed by step-father in Delhi, mother arrested for complicity

In a shocking development, police in the national capital say that a 5-year-old boy in Delhi has died after being thrashed by his step-father. The said incident took place on 10 January in Delhi’s Kapashera area.

DCP South West Devender Arya was quoted by news agency ANI as saying, “We’ve registered a murder case. According to the medical report, the child suffered multiple injuries including, one on head which was the cause of the death.”

The police officer also said that that the boy, identified as Yuvang Singh, died on 12 January due to his injuries. He said that the boy’s step-father had confessed to his crime adding that the deceased’s mother too was a part of the conspiracy. “The mother presented wrong facts during the investigation. We’ve concluded that death is a result of a conspiracy of which the mother was also a part,” the officer was quoted by ANI.

A report by India Today said that the boy’s mother, Rani, was not present when the incident took place. But, the cops have now arrested her too for providing misleading information to the police. The two had attempted to show the boy’s death as an accident.

The step-father has been identified as one Narendra Kumar, who’s been booked under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 120(B) criminal conspiracy with his wife Rani.

Police, according to Indian Express, got a call from a hospital that a boy was brought in unconscious by his father. “Kumar claimed the child ate sweets at home and that he started vomiting and fell in the bathroom,” said a senior officer.

According to police, Kumar had thrashed the boy mercilessly because he was ‘crying and not eating anything.’ “Frustrated, the accused slapped and kicked the child repeatedly till he fell unconscious,” a police officer was quoted as saying.
