Former Home Secretary, GK Pillai, has said that more investigation needed to take place before taking the 26/11 mastermind David Headley’s version on Ishrat Jahan seriously.
Pillai said that the Lashkar-e-Toiba had indeed put her name on their website as a martyr, but had later withdrawn the same.
He said, “There was no direct evidence, except that LeT put her name on the website, so I said maybe she was unwitting player.
“She was definitely part of group which went round India and finally ended up in Gujarat with a plot to take violent action against leaders. The real issue is whether it was a real encounter or whether it was a fake encounter.”
While deposing a Mumbai court via video link from the US, Headley had described Ishrat an LeT member.
