Prashant Bhushan meets Anna Hazare over Jan Lokpal, says Gandhian wants it to be identical to 2014 bill

Former AAP leader and Supreme Court lawyer, Prashant Bhushan, on Thursday met veteran anti-corruption crusader, Anna Hazare, whom the AAP had approached over Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill earlier this week.

Hazare had told the AAP leaders, Kumar Vishwas and Sanjay Singh that he supported the proposed anti-graft legislation, tabled by the Delhi government in the Assembly, albeit with two changes.

After his meeting with the Gandhian, Bhushan took to twitter to say that Anna had told him about the 2015 Lokpal bill ‘to be identical to 2014.’

His tweet read;

Bhushan along with other members of the newly founded Swaraj Abhiyan have been vocal about their opposition to the anti-graft bill proposed by Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal.

He had called the current bill a “diluted” version of the one that was tabled in 2014 in terms of several provisions including that in appointment, removal and jurisdiction of the ombudsman.

Hazare has suggested changes in the selection panel and in the removal process, both of which Kejriwal had readily accepted to incorporate and is likely to announce in the assembly soon.

Both the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and Swaraj Abhiyan, a group led by expelled party leaders Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav, are hoping to get Hazare on their side to get an upper hand in the ongoing tussle.
