The controversy over Delhi government’s proposed Jan Lokpal Bill took an ‘ugly’ turn on Saturday evening when the representative of Aam Aadmi Party and Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan faced each other in a TV debate.
The clip of this TV debate now has gone viral with AAP supporters calling it a ‘new low’ by Bhushan, himself a former AAP leader.
The debate was on Hindi news channel Aaj Tak, where among others Prashant Bhushan was facing Raghav Chadha from the AAP.
This debate followed a series of allegations by Bhushan that Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had ‘deceived’ the people of Delhi by drafting a weak Lokpal Bill.
Bhushan, along with his father Shanti Bhushan and another colleague, Yogendra Yadav, held a news conference earlier in the day to slam their former AAP colleagues on Lokpal Bill.
On Aaj Tak, Bhushan lost his cool and gave dressing down to the young AAP spokesperson using words like ‘behuda(vulgar) and badzaat (one belonging to bad caste).’
AAP supporters have begun sharing this clip fervently on social media calling it a ‘new low’ by Prashant Bhushan.
What prompted Bhushan to lose his temper on live TV was when Chadha accused him of being ignorant about the bill drafted at Ramlila Maidan during the India against Corruption movement.
Chadha said, ” If Prashant ji says he didn’t know about the bill, which was drafted in Ramlila, then he ought to have held the news conference then. Why now? He should have lodged a protest in party’s Political Affairs Committee. Why raise this issue now? He should have resigned from the party then? ”
This prompted Bhushan to make intervention.
He said, “Why don’t you show the bill of 2014. why are you speaking when you don’t know anything? Aise behuda logon ko debate keliye bhej diya jaata hai, jinko kuch bhi nahi pata. sar pair bhi nahi pata unko debate kelite bhej diya jaata hai. Bas chillane keliye. tum bakwaas karte jaa rahe ho. tumko abc bhi nahi pata hai janlok pal ka aur bakwas kate jaa rahe ho, wahi bill hai, wahi bill hai (They send such vulgar people to debate who know nothing. They send such people just to shout. You are speaking nonesense. You don’t know the ABC of the bill and yet you’ve continued to talk trash and utter rubbish.)”
As Bhushan spoke, his continued to raise his voice and he was seething in anger when he reached here, “Jhoote, farebi, be-imaan, Badzaat. dikhaao hamko ki 2014 ke bill mein kya likha hai? (Liar, con, cheat, show me what was written in 2014 bill).”
AAP supporters were quick to take to social media to post this video.
AAP’s Atishi Marlena lauded Chadha for maintaining his dignity even the ‘political differences had brought Bhushan to such a low.’

Other users mostly sympathetic to AAP too slammed Bhsuhan for being rude and ‘abusing’ Chadha.
