Police in Jamshedpur have arrested at least three people after a headless body of a three-year-old baby was found from a bush in Jamshedpur. Superintendent of Police (Railway) Ehtesham Waquarib told news agency PTI that cops were also using the services of sniffer dogs to trace the missing head of the baby.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on 25 July, has sent shock waves across the country.
The prime accused in the case is one Rinku, who was earlier arrested and convicted for kidnapping and killing children in Telco and Sakchi areas. Rinku’s father is a constable in the Giridih district police.
The baby was sleeping with her mother at the railway station last Thursday when Rinku kidnapped her. The CCTV footage showed the accused comfortably taking the child away as the baby remained sleeping against his shoulder. Using the CCTV footage, police were able to zero in and arrest him and his associate Kailash on Monday.
“We recovered the headless body of the girl from the bushes in Ramadhin Bagan Tuesday night after Rinku revealed that he had dumped her body and told us the location. We took him along with us and found the headless body though he has been insisting that he didn’t behead the victim but admitted to killing her. She had injury marks on her private parts, indicating rape but we are awaiting the post mortem report,” deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Noor Mustafa Ansari was quoted by Hindustan Times.
Prime accused Rinku was earlier convicted for abducting a 7-year-old girl with an intention to kill and sent to jail for two years in March last year. The man with a known criminal past came out of the jail a few weeks ago, said Ansari.
Police are also examining the role of one Monu Mondal, a resident of Rajmahal in Sahebganj, who had reportedly promised to marry the victim’s mother. Originally from Purulia in West Bengal, the victim’s mother told the cops that Monu had cheated her by falsely identifying himself as Mohammed Sheikh to marry her.
Prime accused Rinku has reportedly confessed to killing the three-year-old child.
